Hello all - hope everyone is doing fine. I’m happy to announce the IRS debt has been settled and the building has been painted. In my last letter I stated that we needed more participation from members. It appears I was speaking on deaf ears. I can say I have seen a small increase in meeting attendance and this is a great start. There are many projects that need to be done that the canteen will not support. What the canteen will support is the day to day needs of the post and regular maintenance of the building. The canteen will not support our charities or other things such as building, equipment and furniture upgrades that we all know are definitely needed to be done. We all take pride in being a Veteran and a member of the American Legion and I would like our facility to represent that pride. With all that being said, without membership participation, we are unable to do the upgrades that are desperately needed. Here are the projects that at the front of the list.
1. New Awning 1500.00
2. Upgrade patio 2500.00
3. Fence repair & extension 1000.00
4. Replace Carpeting 1500.00
5. Replace A/C in Office 3000.00
This is just a portion of the things that need to be done. I’m asking that all the members of all the groups get more involved either by participation or donations. I would prefer participation, but I also understand that’s not always possible. There is a PayPal account set up for donations. Please make sure you enter the reason for your donation or where you would like your gift to be used. I will send a donation slip out for all donations. It deeply saddens me to have to send out a letter like this, one that I must plead with the members to get their support. Let me give you some statistics.
The following are numbersof members in the groups associated with the Post.
A total number of members 577
If we could get every member to donate 20.00 it would put 11540.00 in the bank.
Just imagine if that happened three times a year what we could get done and the things we could accomplish. I am attaching a copy of the events meeting notes for all to see what is going on at the Post. Please come and show your support.

Post 597 Commander
I would like to start by saying thank you for the opportunity to serve this post as your Commander I consider it a great honor.
With that being said I know we all have not just joined the American Legion just to be able to say that we are member, but we joined to be part of something we believe in and where we can help others. I realize that everyone has families and responsibilities and life always seems to get in the way of our good intentions.
I would like to throw out this challenge to all the members not just the Legionaries but all the groups A.U.X. , S.A.L. and Rider’s to participate in or attend one event a month and at least 6 meetings a year. I should not have to say this but all officers should make every attempt to make their meeting every month. We are all part of a great organization and I feel with a little effort we can make this the greatest post in the state or even the nation for that matter.
I am presently working with all the organizations to compile a complete email list; please update your information with your unit or squadron.
As some of you may know we are presently working to repaint the outside of the building. As is with all building projects we always find more than expected things to repair with that comes with additional cost, these cost are slowing the project down. Even with that being said the project should be completed by the end of the month.
Your Commander William (Bill) Godfrey
